THE SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS, SPLIT
ST. DOMNIUS AND VISTAS OF SPLIT
St. Domnius and Vistas of Split is the name of the exhibition of students of Split’s School of Visual arts that is traditionally held on St. Domnius Day in Salon Galić. The year’s exhibition will present the student’s works that are thematically linked to the city and its holiday, and it will mainly engage in architecture and self-portrait.
This year the students were mainly questioning identity through their artworks, the personal one as well as different types of identification, introspectively looking in themselves and critically viewing their environment, studying their tradition and traditions of the city, thinking about idealisms and cosmopolitism, learning about the history and the actual moment of Split in Europe with all its crisis and aspirations. This exhibition will thus present how the city looks from their perspective. What am I in Split and who am I in general, what is the city for me and how much is that city mine, what I mean in this city and what does it means to me, where is Split for me, in center, on periphery, in me or around me, how much the city changes me or how much I change myself – questions on which we tried to answer by the whole sequence of artworks, from paintings, various graphic works, photographs to video performances.
The goal of this exhibition was to additionally dignify the city on its holiday, as well as present the new, young citizens, their viewpoints, thoughts and to make visible their own faces, as well as inject the vitality and love with their artworks to the city’s pulse.
