Technology and
Woman's Liberation around the Mediterranean Region - Discussion on YASMIN
list
Moderated
by Nina Czegledy and Ana Peraica, the discussion will concentrate on the topic
how women were/are emancipating using means of technology. Central issues
would therefore cover - media de/materialization in the sense of hardware
(hardware industries maintained mostly by woman, as Pravetz), but also in
terms of software production (of non-authorial logics; ie modal, plural
and fuzzy usually described as "feminine") and try to search
for the relationship of woman's liberation movements and technology
developments. Is it only about synchronicity or indeed there are more intrinsic
relationships? Starting point will be Martha Rosler's interview regarding
video art and feminism.
Visit the YASMIN website to read the
discussion thread.

A READER
of the project Woman @ Crossroad of Ideologies is coming out.
Articles specify identity topic in the terms of location, done in
comparative studies and case studies covering analysis from disciplines as
art history, archeology, ethnology, sociology, political science and law
science but also perspectives of post-socialist studies, queer and
performance studies, but also notes from genetics. Topics are chosen
specifically, traditional roles of woman on the Balkans, cultural excess
("sworn virgins"), Diaspora (with topics of exile, work in
foreign country...), advertising, autobiography etc.. reflecting a
post-socialist, post-war, market colonized location that finds itself on
borders of Mediterranean, Balkans...
The book is conceived as gathering of the materials produced by public
that was following 15 days program, therefore in reverse of the
production of the project, collecting recycled materials. It contains
several of interviews, journalists' comments, images of artists works
recorded on mobile phones, jokes and SMS messages along with texts
commissioned from specialists in the area.. Each chapter consists of
artist pages, an essay, round table conversation, usually parts where the
public is included and images from the location (as woman knitting in the
public).
