We are pleased to inform you that the exhibition „Surveillance of surveillance“ multimedia artist Toni Meštrović opens, organized by HULU-Split, On Thursday 11/19/2020 at 7:00 PM hour Salon Galić.
In his latest installation, titled "Monitoring the Monitoring," Toni Meštrović continues a kind of experiment initiated in the project "Hacking the System," which was presented at the Art Gallery in 2018. At that time, the artist set up an interactive sound and video installation in the entire exhibition space, using the museum's video surveillance system as its medium. Although this system is essentially benign and does not invade personal privacy, Meštrović used it to provoke the visitor through an experiential component, encouraging them to move beyond the level of abstract information and to fully perceive the problem of surveillance on an experiential level through the immersive installation. This time, in "Monitoring the Monitoring," the author steps aside from the visitor and focuses on the technology itself, meaning on what happens with it independently of potential visitors in the exhibition space. (...) Although Supervision of supervision truly tackles a burning and contemporary issue, methodologically and ideologically Meštrović returns to the very source of video art's development, and in this sense, this work, as well as the aforementioned System hacking, one-of-a-kind Tribute the seventies of the last century.
Exhibition curator ”Supervising the supervision” My name is Jasminka Babić.
The exhibition at Salon Galić can be viewed until December 5th. Admission is free.
